June 3, 2021 - Day Thirteen, Flight One, Part Three
I left Yellowstone National Park and headed south towards the Grand Tetons. Navigation wasn't a problem; I could see them all the way from Yellowstone.
Coming upon this big clearing with lots of water and green, I decided to go down and take a closer look.
Getting lower. | ||||||
Pretty.
I had been flying for awhile so I decided to fly down the western side of the Grand Tetons and land at Driggs-Reed Memorial Airport (KDIJ). The famous Grand Tetons silhouette is clearly visible in the distance. |
Crazy! | ||||||
Flying low over the forest grasslands.
On a left downwind for Runway 4 at Driggs-Reed. The town of Driggs is on the other side of the airport.
Turning left base for runway 4.
Checking out some nice hangar-homes.
I pulled up next to this guy about to start up his big T-28. |
Driggs-Reed is definately an active, upscale airport.
The FBO office and pilot lounge was very nice. There is even an on-field restaurant, the Warbirds Cafe. Unfortunately, I arrived around 10:45 and the restaurant didn't open until 11:30. I borrowed the courtesy car and had a Bison Burger at a nearby gas station/restaurant.
Next to the FBO office was a hangar containing some immaculate warbirds. This navy blue Corsair doesn't take up much room with its wings folded.
A couple of Mig-15s looking good in the corner.
